A Love for Jewelry
I have always had a love for jewelry, creating unique pieces for friends and family since childhood. This passion inspired me to pursue jewelry design, and create this website, Cora's Daughter Art Jewelry.
Personal Journey
My mother, Cora Brown, grew up on an Ojibwe INDIAN reservation in Northern Minnesota. She was 4`11' and raised during a time when it wasnt ~cool~ to be an Indian. She moved us to California when I was 9 and I didn't realize I was part native for many years. After I graduated from college I began learning about my culture and traveling to Minnesota.
As you know, beads were and still are one of Native Americans prized possessions. I started beading on leather and then eventually expanded my interest to jewelry. Currently Iwork with beads, leather, copper and silver. Metalsmithing is my new love.
I am self-taught, so I'm not constrained by conventional themes and patterns. My personal style and choice of materials allows me endless creative possibilities. I have been mentioned in local newspapers and I have been honored by my current community in Arkansas as Artist of the Month. I started this website because I want to honor and remember my mother for her many contributions to my life, as I continue to expand my artistic techniques and creativity. Because after all, I am Cora's Daughter.
